Governance
Shelby County Healthcare Corporation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that governs the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (The MED). The role of this governing body is to:
- Involve all hospital departments and services (including those furnished under contract arrangement)
- Focus on indicators related to improved health outcomes and reduction of medical errors
The governing body, medical staff, and administrative officials are responsible and accountable for ensuring that:
- An ongoing program for quality improvement is defined, implemented and maintained;
- An ongoing program for patient safety, including the reduction of medical errors, is defined, implemented, and maintained;
- The hospital-wide quality assessment and performance-improvement efforts address priorities for improved quality of care and patient safety, and that all improvement actions are evaluated;
- Clear expectations for safety are established;
- Adequate resources are allocated for reducing risk to patients; and
- An annual assessment is conducted to identify improvement projects to be completed that year.
