Monica N. Wharton, Senior Vice President and Chief Legal Counsel, serves as the principal attorney for the health system, and has direct supervision over contracts, collective bargaining, employment and labor, and other healthcare matters. She also supervises the hospital’s risk management program.
Prior to joining Regional Medical Center at Memphis, Monica was an attorney in a local law firm where she amassed extensive experience in litigation in the areas of healthcare, employment contracts and medical malpractice. Before relocating to Memphis, Monica practiced law in North Carolina.
Monica earned her undergraduate degree from Hampton University in Virginia. Monica then earned a Juris Doctor at William and Mary School of Law in Williamsburg, Virginia. Monica is active in several professional and civic organizations. She serves as a Board Member for the Healthy Memphis Common Table and Facing History and Ourselves. She is also a Board Member of the Association of Women Attorneys.
