Nurse Extern Program

At the Regional Medical Center at Memphis (The MED), the Nursing Extern Program is a tremendous opportunity for nursing students nearing graduation to gain much needed practical experience and confidence to ensure a successful career. Nursing students within one year of graduation are eligible for this program which offers supervised hands-on clinical experience in a variety of areas including:

  • Emergency services
  • Intensive care units including burn, cardiac, medical, neuro and surgical
  • Intermediate care unit
  • Medical/Surgical
  • Neonatal care
  • Obstetrics/Gynecology
  • Trauma services
  • Women’s services

Nursing students entering this program are offered flexible hours and invaluable training. Plus, as a Nurse Extern, you may be given the opportunity to continue your nursing career at The MED after graduation.
