Bariatric

Obesity is increasing at alarming rates in the U.S. with more than 25% of Adult Americans now considered obese (BMI>30). ( U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2001) Although prevention of overweight and obesity remains the primary public health goal, more effective treatments for those who are already obese are crucial. The most effective means currently available to induce substantial weight loss, with long-term maintenance of much of that weight loss, is through Bariatric surgery. The Bariatric Services at the Regional Medical Center at Memphis is committed to providing comprehensive patient care with a team of specialists that includes surgeons, nurses, physical therapists, nutritionists, nursing assistants, and respiratory therapists.   Bariatric Services medical directors are Dr. Atul Madan and Dr. David Tichansky.
