The Regional Medical Center at Memphis received a Gold Organ Donation Medal of Honor from the Mid-South Transplant Foundation. Representatives from the Mid-South Transplant Foundation, along with an organ donor recipient, presented the honor to the hospital staff at a celebration in the cafeteria on April 25.
The presentation was a follow-up to a recent ceremony held in Grapevine, Texas, of the National Learning Congress on Organ Donation and Transplantation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). This agency leads the federal government’s efforts to increase organ and tissue donation. HRSA honored the Regional Medical Center and 306 other hospitals for achieving and sustaining national goals for donation, including a donation rate of 75 percent or more of eligible donors in 2010. The Regional Medical Center is one of eight (8) hospitals in the country who received the Gold Medal.
