Johnson Auxiliary Contributions to Hospital Honored

The Johnson Auxiliary recently celebrated its 39th year of serving Regional Medical Center at Memphis at its Annual Meeting and Luncheon.

At the luncheon, the Auxiliary presented a check for $6,000 from Gift Shop profits to The MED Foundation. Since 1992, more than $447,390 has been donated to The MED Foundation by the Auxiliary from Gift Shop profits to assist with the purchase of needed medical equipment, educational initiatives, and other projects of importance to the hospital. This year’s donation was designated for the Jency Mitchell Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to students who are studying to become healthcare professionals.

Jan Jamison was awarded the Auxiliary’s Volunteer of the Year. Jamison is a registered nurse who began volunteering with the Auxiliary in the fall of 2010. She has worked in a number of areas including the Gift Shop, the Mary Love Clothes Closet, fundraising events and performing blood pressure screenings at the hospital.

Special recognition was also given to Pat Gesell at the luncheon. Gesell is the Auxiliary’s longest continuous serving volunteer, having completed 35 years of service to the hospital in 2011. While she has worked in a number of areas, her main focus has been the Gift Shop which opened in November 1981. In recognition of her long term service, leadership, and dedication to the Auxiliary, a special plaque, which will be hung in the Gift Shop, was presented at the Luncheon dedicating the Gift Shop to her.
