Congratulations to Rick Wagers, who was named CFO of the Year at Memphis Business Journal’s 3rd Annual CFO of the Year Awards. Wagers is Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Regional Medical Center at Memphis. This year, the Memphis Business Journal editorial staff chose finalists from five categories, who are chief financial officers, or hold an equivalent position at a company or organization headquartered in the Mid-South.
At the event held October 25th, the Memphis Business Journal honored the program's 14 finalists and five winners in five categories. Wagers was awarded CFO of the Year in the category of nonprofit company sector (more than $10 million in annual revenue.
In his brief tenure with the health system, Wagers has helped to change the financial landscape of Regional Medical Center at Memphis. Working in tandem with the senior executive leadership team, Wagers has made a substantial difference in the financial state and overall performance of the hospital. Wagers has helped to guide the most significant financial turnaround in the 183 year history of Regional Medical Center at Memphis. For three consecutive fiscal years, the organization’s revenues has exceeded its expenses. Wagers has clearly been a leader in improvements made in the financial health of the institution, but his reach in the organization goes much deeper than the finances. Wagers has led other strategic initiatives to improve the image of the hospital and morale among employees.
