Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis
Visitors

In-patient rehabilitation is a rigorous and intense process and patients are expected to fully participate in their individualized rehab plan. Patients are usually involved in therapy from early morning to late afternoon. Visiting hours are from 4 pm to 8 pm daily and special arrangements may be possible on the weekend. All visitors are required to register at the Information Desk on the first floor of the Jefferson Building to obtain a visitor's pass. Visitors must check in at the rehab nurse's station beforeproceeding to the patient's room. Visitors are limited to two per patient room. Should a patient have more than two visitors, the visit may take place in the dining room or activity room when available. At the nurse's discretion, children under six are allowed to visit in dining room areas and activity rooms. Children should not be left unattended.

Although we strongly encourage support from family and friends, overnight stays are not permitted. The treatment team will address any exceptions. It is important that the patient put into practice what he is learning in therapy. Sometimes we, as family, are not aware that we are doing things for the patient that he must either learn to do himself, or learn to ask for.

Patient Meals

To promote independence and interaction with other patients and staff, breakfast, lunch and dinner meals are served in the dining room. If there is a medical reason, meals can be served in the patient’s room.  For patient protection, food brought in must conform to his or her prescribed diet. For that reason, all food must be checked by nursingand in an air-tight container before being given to the patient.

Accommodations

If overnight accommodations are needed, a variety of hotels offer reduced rates for family members of patients. Please call the preferred hotel directly (see below) for rates and availability, and tell them you have a family member in the hospital ...more
