The Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis offers several additional services:
To further promote independence, therapists may visit a patient's home to make physical assessments of the house. They can recommend structural modifications or minor adjustments to accommodate the patient's and family's new needs.
Located within Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis, this area includes a bedroom, kitchen and bath. Upon the recommendation of the treatment team, the Daily Living Unit is available to patients and their families to practice independent living prior to discharge while the nursing staff is available to help. This learning and practice opportunity builds confidence for the return home.
In addition to traditional therapy programs, our therapeutic recreation program provides opportunities for patients to go out into the community to face challenges and try new skills. This program helps patients acquire the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to get involved in social/leisure activities once again, to adjust to community re-entry, to regain decision-making abilities, and to appropriately manage free time. Transportation for community outings is provided in a specially equipped van operated by the rehab staff.
Staff members at the Rehabilitation Hospital of Memphis serve as patient advocates during their stay. Staff ambassadors round on their patients, spend time getting to know them and their families and ensure their needs are being met while in the hospital. This program provides valuable one-on-one time and connections between staff members, patients and families.
