The College Student Volunteer Program at Regional Medical Center at Memphis provides local college students the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in a hospital environment while making an impact on their community. The students in the College Volunteer Program work in clinical and non-clinical roles available throughout the hospital. The impact made by college student volunteers leaves a positive impression on the staff, visitors and patients.
The program begins at the beginning of each fall/spring semester where the hospital welcomes students from a number of universities and colleges. This semester-long program places students in various units within Regional Medical Center at Memphis to support staff, patients and visitors. Undergraduate and Graduate students are welcome to apply and the volunteer opportunities change from semester to semester. In the past volunteers have been assigned to the following areas: Emergency Department, Pastoral Care, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Print Shop, Radiology, and Trauma.
The College Student Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 48 volunteer hours per semester (3 hours per week), with a requested regular schedule each month. College volunteers are also asked to commit to a minimum of an entire fall semester from September through December and/or spring semester from February through May (actual dates will vary per year).
The College Student Volunteers must be 18 years of age, and currently enrolled in a college or university. Volunteers of Regional Medical Center at Memphis must have good interpersonal skills, exemplify a positive demeanor, are service oriented and support the vision and mission of Regional Medical Center at Memphis. As with all volunteer opportunities here at Regional Medical Center at Memphis, after all application materials are completed and submitted, each applicant must pass a background check, complete tuberculosis screening and immunization review, and attend a Volunteer Orientation.
